One Year Old Ralphie

Last week was perfect springtime for the Carolinas. Glencairn Gardens is in full bloom, and the sunny days just beckoned come enjoy us. Ralphie and I had just come home from our trip to Ohio and Michigan, and taking several days, in between loads of laundry, house cleaning, and photo editing to just relax seemed more than worth while.

This particular day is etched in my mind. It's one of those days I want to remember forever. Apple slices, PB&J, clementines and crackers. My smiley, wide-eyed boy sitting there, just looking at me. So happy to just be.

Just him, and me.

I love living so close to this little patch of paradise.

He soaks up, with this little quizzical brow, every bush, flower, and person we pass. He smiles with delight at the ducks and water fountains.  He smiles half smiles as I do stupid things to try to get him to grin for the camera. How big is Ralphie? That one he knows like the back of his hand.

Sooo Biiiig!
He's quiet and observant, but waves at anyone who says hi to him. Tossing a ball and crawling after it is a favorite pass time right now. Or, pushing his fire truck from one end of the house to the next, and back again. Best of all, take him outside. He will sit for an hour and watch the cars go by.

Still not walking, but getting close. Every chair was made for pushing, every box was made for climbing, and if he can find a box that needs emptied before climbing, that is even better. There isn't a cupboard in the house he hasn't discovered, a basket whose contents he doesn't know by heart. If Toy Story were true, and toys really could come to life and talk, they would probably say how slighted they felt, and the wooden spoons and measuring cups would toss their heads and laugh.
He is delightful this boy of mine, and every day with him I treasure. Every change, every milestone makes my mama's heart rejoice, even if first it twinges just a bit, and sighs thinking of days gone by. One year old Ralphie. He's just great.

We're all grown up and havin' babies...

...and boy, o, boy, is it FUN!

I wish I could write captions for each of these. Feel free to write your own in the comments! Taking a picture with 4 babies is hard enough - doing it with your camera on self-timer? Yeah.

Sebastian: Whoa, this camera is the funniest thing I've ever seen!
Katharina: I guess I'll just sit here. I wonder when they'll realize I'm not even in the picture?
Ralphie and Mama: Let's blink at the same time so we look like idiots together.
Angela: O, I'm just so happy to be a mother!

Ashlee and Angela: Let's smile and act crazy for the camera, even though the kids aren't even looking at us!
Philippa: Boy, I've never seen Auntie open her mouth so big...

Ralphie: These stupid amber beads are choking me again...
Katharina: Uhm, this is getting kind of scary guys...

Ralphie: Who do you think has a better deer in the headlights stare - me? Or Auntie?
Ashlee: Let's all shout like we're on The Wiggles!

Katharina: Really, guys, I don't like this one bit.
Ralphie: I solemnly swear I did not take one sip of Uncle's scotch.
Sebastian: I could just do this all day!
Auntie: Can you smile THIS big, children?

Ralphie: I may, perhaps, have inhaled some of that cigar, though.
Philippa: I just love my mama soooo much.

:-D :-D

Really, the fun never ends.

Fall

We've been enjoying fall the last week. Grandma came to visit, and we had loads of fun! Spent every day out side, and went searching for pumpkins.

I swear, Ralphie knows he turned 8 months, and has just taken off! Overnight he is sitting taller, and crawling faster. He's now using his knees a little more, and lifting his belly - he'll be a full-fledge crawler soon!

Aren't these two pictures just pitiful? This is what happened when he turned 'round and caught sight of me. He scooted his little self to me as quickly as he could. Silly baby, Mama can't hold you forever.

These next three pictures Ralphie was shouting and yelling, making us all laugh. Then he decided to slap Daniel's head, and pull his hair. His personality has exploded recently, and it is so fun to see his little person emerge.

 It's the Ralphie Swing!

Ralphie was so tickled by these piglets. He would only take his eyes off of them briefly to look up at us and smiling, to make sure we thought they were as cool as he did. Adorable.

Cider slushies and cinnamon cider donuts. O, man.

How tall this Fall?

Thankful for a happy fall, a healthy boy, and fun memories with family!
